Selby police are urging the public to come forward following a large fight in the town.

It occurred at around 3.30am in the town’s market place, and involved a group of around 15 to 20 men and women.

It is not believed that any weapons were used.

As a result of the fight, at least five people needed medical treatment for serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Following the incident, three women aged 20, 21 and 22 from Humberside and three men aged 21, 22 and 28 from West Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of affray. They are all currently in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Ash Khan, of Selby CID, said: “This behaviour is wholly unacceptable and not something we will tolerate.

“I know that there was a large number of people in the area at the time. I urge them to contact the police if they have not already done so, as I need to speak to them about this incident as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help with this enquiry is asked to contact Selby CID on 101, select option 2 and ask for Ash Khan. Alternatively information can be emailed to selbycid@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
