Arts Grants Awarded in East Riding

12:33pm 15th May 2013

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is maintaining its support for the arts across the region by awarding grants totalling nearly £50,000 to eight organisations.

Councillor Richard Burton, the council’s portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said :“I am absolutely delighted that we have been able once again this year to award these grants, even in this challenging financial climate.

“It is vitally important that we continue to support the arts in the area where we can, because there is no doubt that a thriving arts scene contributes to the quality of life of our residents, and to the experience of tourists to the region.  Successful arts events and organisations also contribute greatly to the local economy and allow residents to develop new skills and abilities, whilst at the same time having fun”.

The list of arts grants from the council for the Minster FM area is as follows:

*     Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival : £10,800 awarded to co-ordinate, programme and run the festival annually, including a series of school workshops

*     Pocklington Arts Centre: £5,400 awarded to expand a programme of diverse, challenging and innovative theatre productions and workshops for adults and young people
