6:00am 11th May 2013
As part of the largest gathering of historic military vehicles north of London, it will be the first time the recently restored Douglas DC3 Dakota will be started up at a public event.
Ian Richardson from the Yorkshire Air Museum says: "The Living History displays and the wargames show from which the event originated, combine to make a very unusual event, fusing three 'enthusiast' strands, but now for the first time adding the live jets into the equation.
"It will be the first time our recently restored Douglas DC3 Dakota will be started up at a public event, which will be terrific for people to see.
Ian says: "Battlegroup North – Historic Military Vehicle Rally, Wargaming and Living History Show. Over 200 Historic Military Vehicles, many re-enactment groups and full precision model wargaming show, with fascinating demonstration and participation games for seasoned wargamers and novices to enjoy.
"For the first time, the event will feature live jet aircraft runway runs and propeller aircraft power ups! The jets on the runway will be the Yorkshire built Blackburn Buccaneer, on Saturday and Sunday. Its a great chance to see these historic aircraft in action".
