Archbishop of York's School Scheme Expanded

4:55pm 18th April 2013

Holy Trinity School Barnsley, a purpose-built state-of-the-art school for children aged 3 to 16, will now offer the Archbishop of York’s Young Leaders Award for all Key Stages.  Holy Trinity have been running the Award for Key Stages 3 and 4 since September 2012 with some amazing projects underway and will now offer the Award at KS2.

Headteacher of Holy Trinity Simon Barber said: “Through the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award our students are growing in faith, leadership and looking to serve others. We’re thrilled with the progress so far and I believe that the message behind the Awards, ‘be the change you want to see’, should be introduced to people at an early age. We’re looking forward to seeing how our students will progress through all the Awards at all Key Stages and how it will prepare them for their future”.

Students completing the KS3 Award recently teamed up with Age Concern, The Archbishop of York Youth Trust and The Scouts UK, to distribute nearly 500 fleeces to old people in their local community, providing friendship and much needed warmth throughout the difficult winter months. Those students working at KS4 have fundraised thousands of pounds for a local hospice as well as completing an international project to benefit those in need in other parts of the world.

The Archbishop of York said: “It’s great to hear about the positive impact that the Young Leaders Award is having on schools and communities across the north of England. There are over 8000 students involved now across 65 schools.  The students from Holy Trinity are showing us how young people can inspire everyone in our communities to join in with helping others. I know that these young people will go on to do even greater things and I wish them all the best as they work through the varying levels of the Young Leaders Award and continue to serve others in everything they do.  Keep up the good work!”
