Little Mix to Play at York Racecourse

9:38am 22nd March 2013

Chart-topping all girl band Little Mix will play York Races after the sporting action on Saturday 27 July, as part of the popular Music Showcase Weekend at the track.

The band reached number one, courtesy of “Wings”, one of a string of hits from their debut album.

Perrie, Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Jade won the hearts of the nation when they became the first band ever to win X Factor after their version of Cannonball helped them secure the 2011 crown as well as becoming their first chart topper.

Perrie said, “We’re looking really forward to the summer and to seeing all our fans again; York isn’t very far from my home town so it’ll be great to put on a show for some northern Mixers!”

James Brennan, Head of Marketing said, "Music Showcase Saturday has a really fun feel and I’m sure the girls will prove popular and put on a real show"

Earlier in the day, the racing action will include the Sky Bet York Stakes, a Group Two contest that attracts a field from the top stables; Sir Henry Cecil and Sir Michael Stoute have provided recent winners for this all age middle distance race. A full field is likely to enter the prime betting heat of the afternoon, the valuable Sky Bet Dash, a six furlong handicap.

York Racecourse say it promises to be a fun filled 24 hours for racing and music fans alike as the previous evening (Friday 26 July) the combination of top class racing and live music will have begin with Kaiser Chiefs taking to the stage in their native Yorkshire after the six race card that features the European Breeder’s Fund Lyric Stakes.

James Brennan, Head of Marketing added “two great music acts, thirteen exciting races, fresh Yorkshire food, hopefully some July sunshine it promises to be a great weekend.”

York Racecourse say that the combined racing and music extravaganza is already on sale and music and racing fans alike can take advantage of some attractive deals by visiting www.yorkracecourse or calling 01904 620911.

They add that each year the Music Showcase Weekend is enjoyed by racegoers of all ages with children accompanied and supervised by adults able to enjoy the fun free of charge.

York Racecourse say that the two days of racing form part of the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival also supported by Sky Bet; a nine day celebration of racing across the county when all eight flat courses will stage a meeting.
