Council Tax Rise In York - Still On

7:55am 13th February 2013

York's 2-percent council tax rise is set to go ahead.

The city council's cabinet approved the plans for a 38-pence a week increase at a meeting last night.

It has to make savings of 20-million pounds over the next two years.

Council leader James Alexander has this message for his critics.

But that's despite Hambleton and Selby councils' accepting the government's council tax freeze over the last few days.

York leader James Alexander claims that is storing up problems for the future.

The whole council will decide on the budget plans in a meeting later this month.
