police

10:23am 31st January 2013

A York road was closed this morning after police were called to sightings of a teenager on the wrong side of railings on a foot bridge.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Police officers attended the pedestrian footbridge near St Peter’s School, Bootham, York, shortly after 9am on Thursday 31 January 2013, following reports from members of the public who were concerned about the safety of a young girl.

“On arrival, officers found a teenage girl sat on the wrong side of the railings over the road.

“After a short period of negotiation with a police officer, the girl left the bridge safely. She was taken into police custody for her own protection.

“The road was closed for a short time during the incident.”
