Thirsk and Malton MP Calls for NHS Funding Changes
3:24pm 8th January 2013
Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh met Minister for Health Dr Dan Poulter today to request an urgent review of the NHS funding formula and fairer funding for North Yorkshire.
It comes after York Outer MP Julian Sturdy also called for a review of the funding formula on Minster FM before a meeting to talk about NHS North Yorkshire and York's £19 million debt.
Miss McIntosh said “I was delighted to secure a further meeting with Dan Poulter on this issue of chronic underfunding for a rural sparsely populated area with a growing population of elderly people with specific health issues.
The funding allocation figure shows that per head of population North Yorkshire receives substantially less than other urban parts of Yorkshire and less even than neighbouring counties like Cumbria.
This shortfall hampers efficient use of Community Hospitals such as the Lambert, St Monica’s, Malton Hospital and the Friarage as well as the provision of health care through GPs and community nurses.
I shall now raise these issues together with fellow North Yorkshire MPs with Sir David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the new Commissioning Board, to secure fairer funding for NHS provision in North Yorkshire."
