Thirsk Police Search for Teenagers After Man Attacked

2:36pm 4th January 2013

Thirsk police are appealing for information following an assault in the town.

It occurred at around 12.05am on Friday 4 January 2013, on Long Street.

The 48-year-old local man was walking past Kingdom Hall, when he heard footsteps behind him. As he turned around the victim was punched in the face. As a result of the assault the man received a cut and bruising to his face.

The only description of the offender is that he is white, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a light coloured hoodie. Following the assault the suspect ran off towards York Road.

Shortly before the assault the victim had seen a small group of youths on Stammergate close to the junction with Long Street. It is not known if the person who committed the assault was a part of this group.

PC Jonathan Harrison, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Thankfully the injuries suffered by the victim were not too serious.

“If you can help identify the assailant please come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.

“I am particularly interested in speaking to the youths who were on Stammergate just prior to the assault and ask them to get in touch.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact on 101, press option 2 and ask for Jonathan Harrison. Alternatively information can be emailed to

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12130001866.
