York police are appealing for information after a man stole a van and used it to cause damage in the city.
Officers say it occurred at around 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 January 2013, when the man took the van parked in Newgate market before driving at people in the area, as well as damaging market stalls, buildings and an electricity junction box.
He then abandoned the van a few minutes later before running off towards either Walmgate or Piccadilly, say police.
North Yorkshire Police say the man is described as being around 6ft tall and was wearing a grey hooded top, a beanie hate and blue jeans.
PC Kevin Brown, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was an absolutely reckless act. The man who stole the van paid little or no regard to the fact he could have seriously injured pedestrians who had to get out of his way to avoid being hit.
“I know that there were a lot of people in the area who have not yet come forward, I urge them to come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.
“I also need to speak to anyone who may have seen the man leaving the scene and ask them to get in touch,”
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact York police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Kevin Brown. Alternatively information can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12130001189.
