Flood Warnings in Place Across North Yorkshire

Environment Agency

5:57am 21st December 2012
(Updated 9:44am 21st December 2012)

The torrential rain that has hammered much of Britain is showing no signs of letting up.

After a brief respite there'll be more downpours over the weekend. The Met office has issues a severe weather warning for Yorkshire this weekend.

Southern and south western England has been the worst affected so far - with more than an inch of rain in some places.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called out to two cars last night stuck in flood water on a road between Cattle and Tockworth, near Wetherby, where they helped people from the cars. The cars are still in the water and the road is now closed.

The Environment Agency has Issued 7 Flood Warnings in the North East, down from 11 earlier this morning which means floodings expected in those areas and 29 flood alerts where flooding is possible.

The 7 flood warnings are:

River Swale at Kirby Wiske

River Ure at Aldwark Bridge to Cuddy Shaw

River Ouse at York - riverside properties

River Ouse at York - St Georges Field

River Ouse at Naburn Lock

River Hull and tributaries in the upper Hull catchment

River Nidd at Hunsingore and Cattal
