North Yorkshire Police

1:20pm 10th December 2012

York police want Subway customers and taxi drivers to contact them after a man was racially abused as he waited in the Clifford Street branch of Subway in the early hours of last Sunday 2nd December 2012.

Between 3.50am and 4.10am, the man was waiting in the queue to buy food when he was subjected to racial abuse by another man.

The suspect then left the shop and got into a taxi on Clifford Street.

The suspect is white, around 5ft 2in, of slim build with short hair. He was wearing burgundy coloured trousers, a black jacket with a white t-shirt underneath.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or any taxi drivers who remember picking up a man on Clifford Street matching the suspect’s description.

PC Andrew Pearson of York police, said: “This involved an innocent member of the public who was subjected to appalling racist verbal abuse. This is completely unacceptable in a civilised society and I am asking members of the public to assist us with identifying the offender.”

Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Andrew Pearson.

Or, you can pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
