The Duke of York is in York Today

HRH The Duke of York, KG Colonel-in-Chief, The Yorkshire Regiment is attending a Thanksgiving Service in York Minster today when Yorkshire Regiment soldiers who have returned home from Afghanistan will parade through the city.

The 500 soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (3 YORKS) march from Tower Street to Duncombe Place for an inspection and salute in front of guests, families and onlookers before moving to York Minster for a service attended by His Royal Highness and the Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu.

The soldiers have returned from a six-month tour of duty on Operation HERRICK 16, providing support to 12 Mechanized Brigade in Helmand Province. Sadly, ten of their soldierswere killed on operations and their families have been invited to the parade and service.

A Thanksgiving service is being held in York Minster during which the Warminster Military Wives Choir will sing.

3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment is currently based in Warminster, Wiltshire, but recruits throughout Yorkshire.
