Dinner ladies and cleaners working for City of York Council will be getting a pay rise next year.

Last night, the authority agreed to bring in a living wage of £7.45 an hour from 1st April.

More than 500 staff at the council will benefit as a result.

It's designed to make sure all workers earn enough to pay for life's essentials.

Pauline Stutchfield from the City of York Council says the cost of living has increased.
