6:01am 24th November 2012

The National Science Learning Centre in York will be showing people how to impress their relatives this Christmas.

They'll show you how to do some simple experiments at the dinner table, with everything from tinsel to ice cubes.

It's part of their Christmas Open Day next Saturday where the whole family can learn some fun experiments as part of a free day of science.

The National Science Learning Centre say you can:

  • Learn science demonstrations to amaze your family at the Christmas dinner table with the National Science Learning Centre’s Simon Quinnell.

  • Explore the properties of solids, liquids and gases in a loud, explosive, whizz-bang lecture, ‘Chemistry with a Bang’, with Dr Steven Rossington from the University of Salford.

  • Get hands-on with some of the incredible science gadgets in the National STEM Centre library.

The National Science Learning Centre Sessions will be running throughout the day from 10.30 – 15.00.

The day is free but you need to book online at: www.myscience_openday.eventbrite.co.uk

The National Science Learning Centre is at Siwards Way, University of York, YO10 5DD.
