Jail Overcrowding Crisis

6:51am 28th August 2012
(Updated 7:26am 28th August 2012)

It's claimed around two thirds of jails in England and Wales are operating at an overcrowded level.

The Prison Reform Trust says there are nearly 7,300 more people in the system than there should be.

The group says the problem's at its worst in Kennet jail in Liverpool.

It's designed to hold 175 men, but has 337.

A North Yorkshire jail also features in the Top 10.
