Biker seriously hurt in crash

10:29am 26th July 2012

Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision on the A66.

It occurred just after 8pm on Tuesday 24 July 2012, on the westbound carriageway between Scotch Corner and Gilling West. The collision involved a yellow Ford Transit van and a blue Lexmoto XTR125 motorcycle.

The 17-year-old youth riding the motorcycle was taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious head and leg injuries which are not believed to be life threatening, where he currently remains in a critical but stable condition.

The man driving the transit van was not injured.

The westbound carriageway was closed for approximately four hours following the collision.

Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, said:

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone who can help the police with this enquiry is asked to contact Richmond police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Michael Hancock.
