Miss Anne McIntosh, MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey, will today present a petition from constituents living in Thirsk, Malton and Filey regarding the levying of VAT on the sale of static holiday caravans.

Miss McIntosh said:

“I feel that introducing such a measure of an added twenty per cent of VAT onto the cost of static caravans should not be introduced with just six months notice. Most budget measures are announced in April one year and are then consulted upon to come into effect one year later. One year of grace is necessary to prepare for such a radical change.”

“The petitioners raise their own concerns that VAT on static caravans would cost thousands of jobs in holiday parks, caravan manufacturing, suppliers and the wider UK holiday industry.”
