The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton, has received a letter from Buckingham Palace to express HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s thanks for the city’s warm and kind hospitality.
The Royal Party, including HRH Princess Beatrice of York, visited the city on Maundy Thursday 5th April earlier this month as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour.
Cllr David Horton, said: "It was an incredible honour to welcome Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Party to York and we will treasure these memories for years to come.”
In the letter, Buckingham Palace shared the same sentiments at the Lord Mayor, by saying: “The splendid lunch at the Mansion House, the work of many hands, was a great highlight and complemented what was a memorable day.”
The letter went on to say how “beautiful” it was in York that day: “On such a beautiful day, the Royal party much enjoyed the opportunity to meet and see so many of the people of York who gave them such a marvellous welcome.”
It was estimated that approximately 15,000 people visited York on 5 April.
