Yorkshire soldiers verses Yorkshire soapstars
12:00am 1st April 2012
RAF Leeming footballers are calling for support from the sidelines this weekend when they take on the might of the soap world in a football match aimed at raising cash for the Royal Air Forces Association.
The North Yorkshire military station will be sending their best players to Garforth Town FC on 1 April to pitch their footie skills against the Emmerdale All Stars, competing against their established team under the captaincy of James Hooton, aka Sam Dingle.
It is hoped that as many people as possible will turn up for the game, which kicks off at 1pm. Several RAF Leeming players are members of 34 Squadron RAF Regiment, taking time out from tough training in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan later this year. Funds raised from ticket sales will go towards the Royal Air Forces Association, which provides vital support to serving and former members of the Royal Air Force and their families.
Squadron Leader Tats Tatters, who will be playing as part of the team said:
"RAF Leeming is very much looking forward to playing the Emmerdale All-stars Football Team. It is a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of the RAFA Association and support their broad and valuable work for both veterans and those that serve today. The RAF Leeming team has been training hard and with the Stn Cdr in the side, I'm sure they are ready for the challenge this weekend".
Tickets for Sunday's match cost £5 for adults with £3 concessions. A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £10. They are available from Garforth Town ticket office.
