Theft from a cancer patient at York hospital
9:13am 13th March 2012
Police in York are appealing for the public’s help following the theft of a mobile phone from a cancer patient at York District Hospital.
The Samsung Galaxy was stolen from a bedside cabinet, between 12pm and 8pm on Saturday 10 March 2012, while the 55-year-old woman it belongs to, was receiving treatment.
PC Wesley Cooper, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
“This is a despicable theft. The thief must have known that the phone belonged to a seriously ill patient and they showed callous disregard for the effect the theft had on them.
“The phone holds treasured images of the woman’s grandchildren, which she finds of great comfort during the treatment she is receiving.
“I urge anyone who can help return this phone to its rightful owner to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
Anyone who can help with this enquiry is asked to contact York police on 101. Press option 2 and ask for Wesley Cooper.
Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120039474.
