Fire at York Uni

A major fire has broken out at York University.

Crews from York, Acomb, Huntington and Tadcaster are on the scene, but they've called for more help.

The call came in at 12.50pm after reports of a blaze in the chemistry block.

The fire service don't know if it's a big fire as yet (2pm) but a full evacuation's underway whilst investigation continue.

David Duncan is the Registrar and Secretary of York University. He spoke to reporters about the blaze:


Speaking at 4pm this afternoon, staff at the university are now working to ensure students are safe and the site is secure. David Duncan continued to say they're looking ahead to the future to ensure lessons can get back underway as soon as possible:
