An international karate champion from York has been found guilty of rape.
Liam O'Grady from Osbaldwick was accused of five counts of sexual assault against a girl, including rape and sexual grooming. He's been found guilty of four of them.
Throughout his trial at York Crown Court he denied all the charges, which date between October 2010 and April 2011.
Below is the statement on the O'Grady verdict from North Yorkshire Police
He was found guilty of four of the five charges.
He was charged with four counts of sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl and one count of sexual grooming between 1st October 2010 and April 2011.
He pleaded not guilty to all five charges at an earlier hearing.
He has been remanded in custody until he is sentenced on 20th January 2012.
Shaun Page, of North Yorkshire Police's Protecting Vulnerable Person's Unit, said:
"Liam O' Grady is a paedophile and I am satisfied that the jury has found him guilty of the serious charges he faced.
"As a karate instructor and role model, he held a position of trust which he completely abused by taking advantage of an innocent young girl.
"O'Grady's arrogance and repeated denials of the offences he committed meant that rather than pleading guilty when he had the chance, he has subjected his victim and her family to the further turmoil of a lengthy court process.
"I hope today's verdict makes O'Grady face up to the fact that what he has done is sick and completely unacceptable.
"I also hope that the end of this case can bring some comfort to the victim and her family and helps them move on with their lives."
Following today's guilty verdict (Friday 23rd December 2011) Minster FM's Tracy Gee spoke to Detective Inspector Shaun Page who was at the court:
