A body's been found after a caravan fire in York.

North Yorkshire Police were called by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service at 1.40am on the morning of Sunday 25 September 2011, to reports of a fire at a caravan behind the Aagrah restaurant on the A64 near Tadcaster.

The fire spread to another caravan and a vehicle parked nearby. The fire was extinguished by around 4am, allowing fire and rescue officers to carry out a preliminary search of the caravan.

Sadly, officers searching the remains of the caravan have located a body. However, at this stage it is too early to confirm the identity of the person. Officers are  carrying out enquiries to enable them to confirm the identity of the deceased.

One man, believed to be a permanent resident of one of the caravans remains unaccounted for.

No-one else has been injured.

Police officers and specialist fire investigators are carrying out a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

At this stage it is too early to say if there are any suspicious circumstances which led to the fire.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the fire to contact them on 0845 60 60 247, quoting incident number 52 of 25 September.
