Elderly York man dies after collision

A York pensioner has died after a crash in Scarborough.

89 year old Raymond Thomas Fowler of Heworth Green, York was hit by a white Vauxhall Astra estate on the junction of Newborough Street and Queen Street, in Scarborough, at around 10.40am on Saturday 6th August 2011.

Mr Fowler was taken to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment to injuries he sustained in the collision.

He was later transferred to York District Hospital, where he sadly died on Monday 15th August 2011.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for any witnesses to contact them with information.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood, of Scarborough Road Policing Group, said:

" The incident occurred on Saturday morning, which means there will have been plenty of locals and visitors around.

"Tragically, Mr Fowler has died as a result of the collision and it is important that we establish exactly what happened.

"Given the time of day, I am sure someone must have seen the incident and could have information vital to the investigation."
