Local Euro MP signs declaration on anti corruption in European sport Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, has today signed a Written Declaration in the European Parliament calling on the Commission to act on corruption in European sport.
The Liberal Democrat MEP for Yorkshire & the Humber said in Strasbourg:
"From match fixing in cricket right up to allegations within the hierarchy of FIFA, corruption continues to blight some of our most prized sports and competitions.
This must distract from some of the enjoyment people receive from participating and viewing sporting events."
Recent events such as the probe into alleged bribery allegations within FIFA and match fixing probes into major snooker and cricket matches have brought corruption high up on the agenda.
Diana Wallis continued:
" I am delighted to sign this Written Declaration and hope, at the very least, we get a wide ranging study on the whole issue of corruption in sport, which must include the activities of all international sports bodies who operate within the EU."
