Pensioner attacked at Askham Bar

3:49pm 20th June 2011

York police are appealing for a vital witness to come forward after an elderly man was assaulted at Askham Bar.

Officers believe that the driver of a silver family saloon car, who took the 74 year old victim home following the assault on Wednesday 8th June 2011, may have witnessed the incident and could have information vital to the investigation.

The victim was approached by four youths on the railway bridge near Tesco, at around 7.45pm. One of the group hit him on the head leaving him shaken but not requiring hospital treatment.

The driver of the car took the victim home but did leave any details. Police would like to trace him as he may be able to help identify the offenders.

PC Colin Park, of York police, said:

“I would like to thank the driver of the car for taking the victim home and also appeal for him to come forward and let us know if he witnessed the incident itself.

“The victim was not seriously injured in the assault, however he was shaken up and I would appeal for anyone else who may have witnessed the incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Colin Park, of York police, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110094182.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
