A charity recipe book, produced by students at top performing Selby College has scooped a prize in a national competition.

The Sweetest Thoughts recipe book, which was created in memory of former Hospitality and Catering student Scott Robinson (from Howden) who lost his battle against cancer last summer, has been named the Best Business with a Heart in the Tenner Tycoon 2011 competition.

The competition, which ran from 1st- 31st March, offered young people under the age of 19 throughout the country the opportunity to make money, make a difference and give back.

Students are invited to apply for a £10 loan from the "Tenner Bank" which is funded by Dragon's Den Entrepreneur Peter Jones, Big Lottery Fund and Bebo founders, Michael and Xochi Birch.

Once the challenge is over, participants are asked to return their original loan and either keep or donate the profit they made.

In Selby College's case the students have chosen to split the profits between Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Nurses, in memory of Scott.

Guidance and Support Tutor Angie Hobden, who has been instrumental in both the production and subsequent sale of the book said;

"I can't believe how well the book has been received. We've now sold all 1,100 copies we originally printed and are in the process of reprinting it in order to keep up with demand."

"This award is a real surprise. I always hoped we might win something, but with so many excellent projects around the country I knew it would be tough. I'm absolutely overjoyed for the students who have worked so hard to ensure this book is a massive success and for Scott's family, this is a truly fitting memorial to a genuinely lovely young man, who touched the lives of so many staff and students at Selby College and who will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

The group now plans to launch an official website and hope to get the book published. You can still order a copy by emailing thesweetestthoughts@selby.ac.uk, it will be on sale at this year's Selby College Fashion Show on June 14th and 15th and Race for Life in York on June 19th, or alternatively you can pick up a copy from the town's Tesco store.
