Pensioner hunt in hit-and-run

12:05pm 31st May 2011

A pensioner's been knocked down in a hit and run incident in North Yorkshire.

Yesterday afternoon the 74 year old woman was struck by a motorcyclist on the B1257 between Helmsley and Stokesley.

The biker, who was travelling in convo with another bike, failed to stop at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police is now tracing the identity of the riders.

Traffic Sergeant Neil Campbell, of North Yorkshire Police's Road Policing Group, said:

"The motorcyclists could not have known the extent of the woman's injuries and made no attempt to find out.

"I would appeal to the rider of the motorcycle involved to do the right thing and come forward.

"I would also appeal to the second motorcyclist to get in touch with us, as he may hold vital evidence and we need to eliminate him from the enquiry.

"I am also interested in speaking to anyone who saw the collision itself or saw either motorcycle prior to or following the incident."

The victim remains has since made a good recovery from her injuries and was discharged from James Cook Hospital on Monday 30 May 2011.

Anyone with information that can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact TS Neil Campbell, or Traffic Constable Lee Hauxwell, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110087827.
