Major fire in Thirsk

Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene of a large fire at Todd's Waste Management on Thirsk Industrial Estate

A 200 meter cordon was put in place and the roads leading into the estate were closed.

Members of the public are asked to stay away from the scene to prevent congestion and to allow the emergency services to deal with the fire.

Residents living in the area, in particular the Hambleton Estate area, are advised to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed.

At this stage, it is believed there are no casualties.

The fire was reported to police by the fire service at around 7.45pm yesterday (3 May) It is too early to say what has caused the fire.

The fire service say they have scaled down their efforts this morning.
