Patients urged to request repeat prescriptions before bank holiday
Repeat prescription users across North Yorkshire and York are being urged to ensure they have appropriate stocks of medication to see them through the bank holiday following a surge of 'out of hours' requests for repeat prescriptions during last weekend.
Angela Frankish, Clinical Manager, from the GP out of hours service, said:
"Last weekend we had a huge influx of patients calling out of hours to request repeat prescription items.
"The 'out of hours' service is for patients who have a medical enquiry that can't wait until the next morning to see their GP.
"Spending time issuing repeat prescriptions stretches our resources and ultimately impacts upon how quickly we can see and treat patients with a genuine need.
"Patients who are on repeat medication should know when their stocks are running low and be able to make plans to request a new prescription in advance of their current supply running out. They should call their GP during normal opening hours and make arrangements for their prescription to be prepared."
