Norton jockey's still remembered

8:09am 25th March 2011
(Updated 2:38pm 25th March 2011)

Two young jockeys, who died in a flat fire in Norton, still inspire our youngsters.

The pride of Malton and Norton will be celebrated later.

The award ceremony is back for the second year to recognise shining stars in the community.

The Pride of Malton and Norton Awards return for a celebration of the hardworking people and organisations in the community on Friday 25th March at The Old Lodge Hotel, Malton.

We Love Malton and The Malton & Pickering Mercury have teamed up together for the awards and will bring together voluntary organisations, schools, businesses and the general public to celebrate the achievements of the past year.

Worthy winners will be announced for the following categories:

• Customer Service Award
• Business Personality of the Year
• Local Hero
• Volunteer of the Year
• Teacher of the Year
• Bright Young Star - this is in memory of Jan and Jamie who died in the Norton flat fire in 2009.
