Swap your unwanted pressies

(Updated 12:00am 15th January 2011)

If santa got it wrong? swap it!

Get rid of unwanted Christmas presents at a free swap event
on Saturday 15th January 10am-1pm.

York in Transition is holding a Christmas Presents Swap at the York Environment Centre on St Nicholas Fields off Rawdon Avenue. It’s a chance to get rid of those well-meaning gifts that you know you’re just not going to use. And if Santa managed to get it completely right for you, you can still come along for a browse and pick up something that takes your fancy.

You can also bring along any leftover Christmas wrapping paper and cards - a local crafts artist will be leading creative workshops to give them a new lease of life. And help is at hand for your bicycle, too. If your bike has suffered from all the snow, grit and salt, bring it along for the free maintenance workshop.

One of the organisers, Ivana Jakubkova said:

“Swap events like this are great fun and help prevent things going to waste or gathering dust. I got some cracking Christmas presents this year but I hope to swap my pink welly socks for something more useful!”

Any leftover items from the swap will be donated to a local charity shop. Admission to the event is free but donations are very welcome. Please note that we can’t accept electrical goods, or sharp or otherwise dangerous items.
