Don't be tempted to walk on frozen water.

North Yorkshire Police has issued an urgent warning about the dangers of walking on frozen water.
This follows numerous reports from across the force area of people playing on iced-over ponds, lakes and canals.
The most serious incident occurred at 11pm on Saturday 18 December in the Scarborough Open Air Theatre when a 32-year-old man got into difficulties in the lake and had to be rescued by Night Marshals from the town. He had to be treated by paramedics at the scene.
Officers have also been called to warn children who were playing on a canal near Selby, as well as ponds in York, Harrogate and Ripon.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said:
“Stepping onto areas of frozen water is extremely dangerous and potentially fatal.
“Not only are these foolish individuals placing themselves in perilous danger, they are also
risking the safety of those who come to their aid if they get in difficulty.
“We urge parents to help drill this message home before it is too late.”
