Yorkshire air ambulance needs your help.

6:22am 22nd December 2010

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance are appealing for its supporters to make a festive donation, as the independent charity received their very own 'Christmas present' in the form of a £150,000 repair bill after they recently had to replace the gearbox on one of their life-saving helicopters.

Whist many people enjoy some time off over Christmas, the two YAA helicopters will still be available every day, manned with a skilled crew and pilot.  The Charities fundraising also continues, having to raise £7,200 each day, even on Christmas Day.  The Yorkshire Air Ambulance are inviting supporters to help them in their fundraising efforts by donating their very own 'Christmas present' in the form of a donation.  All donations are welcome, no matter how small and are always gratefully received.  All personal donations will also be eligible for GiftAid (provided supporters are a UK taxpayer), so for every £1 donated, the YAA can claim a further 25p from the government.

The donations will also contribute towards a replacement gearbox which the Charity have had fitted to their helicopter G-CEMS - at a total cost of £150,000.

Paul Gowland, Director of Fundraising explains "Helicopters are just like any vehicle, undergoing regular maintenance and having parts replaced when they become worn.  The safety of our crews and pilot are paramount so both our helicopters are regularly checked to make sure they are safe and reliable.  On a recent maintenance check, it became apparent that the gearbox on G-CEMS needed replacing - one of the most expensive components, with the replacement costs totalling £150,000."
Mr Gowland continues "We understand that Christmas can be an expensive time of year, however, we are appealing to our supporters to ask them to think of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance this Christmas too.  Whilst many of us will be enjoying a family meal or that extra mince pie on Christmas Day, the two Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopters along with the pilots and crews will be on duty, providing our life-saving service."

"We are grateful for any donation, no matter what size, and we would encourage supporters to visit our website to make a Christmas gift to the Charity- that would be the icing on our Christmas pudding!."

Supporters can donate to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in a number of ways:
