150 presents collected in the Christmas Monks Cross and Minster FM Give A Gift initiative which has taken place throughout December will be handed over to children who wouldn't normally recieve anything today.
Representatives from the two charities who will distribute the gifts to children in the York area (York's Salvation Army and the York Women's Refuge) met Carolyn at Monks Cross and collected over 150 gifts very kindly donated by Monks Cross shoppers. Sarah of York Women's Refuge said 'We have a large number of children under our 'wing' at the moment who did not think they'd have a very bright Christmas this year but due to the kindness of York shoppers, these donated presents will really make Christmas a much happier time for them. We are so grateful....thankyou everyone'. The Salvation Army echoed Sarah's comments saying that they had been inundated with requests for support this year and that Give A Gift would help enormously.
Katherine Sharp, Monks Cross Centre Manager said ' there are a few more shopping days to Christmas and the Give a Gift appeal will continue. Monks Cross will ensure all further presents donated will get to the charities'.
To 'Give a Gift' pop into the Monks Cross Information Centre, pick up a gift hanger from the tree , buy your present and bring back to the Monks Cross team to wrap and keep safe in time for Christmas.
