Thirsk police issue efit of bogus gutter repairman
3:46pm 8th December 2010
Police in Thirsk have issued an e-fit of a man they want to trace after a householder was duped out of £180.
On the afternoon of Friday 19th November, the man called at a house on Saxty Way in Sowerby, Thirsk, claiming to be from a legitimate home improvement company who were already working in the area.
He told the householder that her gutters were in need of repair at a cost of £180. She gave him the money but he left without carrying out the work. Subsequent enquires also revealed he did not work for the home improvement company.
The man is described as white, aged in his early twenties, clean shaven, with short dark hair. He was around 5ft 7in tall, of stocky build and wearing smart dark clothing.
Anyone who recognises the man or has any other information, in particular other people who may have answered their door to him are asked to contact Thirsk police on 0845 60 60 247, or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
In the meantime, police have reiterated their advice to people not to part with any cash unless they know exactly who they are paying and what they are buying.
