Five arrested following double-fatal collision
Police investigating a double-fatal motorcycle collision near Tadcaster have arrested five men in connection with the incident.
The men, all from the West Yorkshire area, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a team of 20 North Yorkshire Police officers simultaneously raided their homes at 6.15am this morning (Monday 1 November 2010).
The arrests are the result of an in-depth investigation into the deaths of Dean and Helen Louise Slater, who were tragically killed in a collision on the A162 between Tadcaster and Sherburn in Elmet on Wednesday 25 August 2010.
The couple, who were travelling on the same black Yamaha bike, were heading for Squires Café in Sherburn, in a group of six motorcycles, when they were involved in a collision with a green Vauxhall Vectra travelling in the opposite direction.
Dean, aged 40, and his wife Helen, 37, who was the pillion passenger, were thrown from their bike and died instantly from their injuries.
The five men arrested all remain in police custody. They are a 28-year-old man from Cullingworth, a 31-year-old man from Bradford, a 25-year-old man from Bradford, a 28-year-old man from Bingley and a 36-year-old man from Keighley.
