New security measures in York

New security measures in York

Published by David Dunning at 7:55pm 13th November 2019.

York takes security measures to the next level.

Blocks and barriers have appeared across the city centre, and they make quite an impact on the eye.

Particularly affected is St Helen’s Square.

Barriers run the entire length of the ancient square, surrounding the seats and the Christmas tree.

City of York Council has installed them as a temporary measure to protect the city from terror attacks.

These pictures come from Richard McDougall at York Mix

Tom Brittain, assistant director of housing and community safety:

While very rare, terror attacks in the UK can create a lot of concern.

With our partners in the police, we are making the city centre more secure than it has ever been, and want to reassure everyone who uses it that we are prepared, alert and ready to help protect them.
