“Lets get York & Selby District re-covered” campaign is the relaunch of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue's free smoke detector fitting service.
The following applies to all areas in North Yorkshire
Station Manager Tony Walker from Huntington and Acomb
"This is something we’ve never stopped delivering throughout the county of North Yorkshire, however the current data is showing that around 37% of homes we visit across the county still do not have a working detector fitted!
The service has been fitting free detectors and carrying out home fire risk checks since 2003.
We have fitted thousands of detectors, some of which will have most certainly saved life"
Detectors if fitted correctly will go into alarm mode in the very early stages of a fire, in fact most will sound with the invisible products of combustion before the visible smoke is seen.
Detectors used in conjunction with an escape plan will give the occupier valuable minutes to escape the property and allow an early call to the fire service.

The use of detectors not only saves lives but can also help limit damage by fire to the property.
The early alert means the fire service can be called during the early stages of a fire development and with a quick intervention it could hopefully be extinguished before serious damaged is caused to the property.
Do you have a working smoke detector?
Is it over 10 years old and in need of replacement?
