Barlby man accused of assaulted a police officer.

A man from Barlby near Selby's been arrested after he alleged assaulted a police officer.

The 29 year old was detained after allegation he started a fight with two men at a local pub.

He was stopped walking along Howden Road towards the A19.

The force say, he resisted arrest and hit the arresting officer in the face.

We're told three other PCs had to use their batons and pava spray to get the situation under control.

The officer was taken to Pinderfields Hospital by ambulance where he received treatment for minor injuries. He was discharged just after midnight and he was back on duty later that day.

The 29-year-old man has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
