Firearms offence in Skipton

Two men have been arrested after a suspected firearms offence in Skipton.

The pair, aged 22 and 50, were detained by armed officers just after midnight this morning after a report was made that a man was seen carrying a pistol-type weapon in a front garden at The Oval.

Three firearms were also seized from a house.

No-one was injured in the incident and no shots were fired.

Local residents can be assured that there was no threats or dangers posed to them.

The incident was quickly contained and dealt with by the police.

The two men who were arrested are still in police custody awaiting further questioning.

As part of the enquiries, police need to trace an unknown man who made the emergency 999 call from a nearby public payphone. It is vital that he comes forward as soon as possible to help the investigation.
