5:44am 22nd September 2009
A new taxicard travel system for the disabled and over 60s in York could be introduced by this time next year.
It would see up to a hundred cabs in the city fitted with smartcard readers that'll scan an electronic chip.
Officials believe it'll be a step up from the current token system that's usuage can't be monitored by the council.
Steve Galloway is the Executive Member for Planning and Transport in York and has told Minster FM they might turn to more than one company to meet the needs of the taxicard service - and explains the timeline.
