A plastic bag got caught in the overhead lines near St Neots in Cambridgeshire causing delays to Virgin Grand Central and Hull Trains East Coast services earlier today.

A number of trains were cancelled or delayed but things are back to normal now.

Peter Sharp explained that if the plastic becomes tangled in the train’s pantograph (the arm on the roof that draws power from the overhead lines) it could damage the pantograph or wires.
