(Updated 4:50pm 16th January 2018)

Jerry Scott, a well known voice on radio across North Yorkshire for over 25 years, died after a long illness.  He was one of the first presenters to be heard on Minster FM and went on to launch Yorkshire Coast Radio.

Jerry then moved to BBC Radio York but kept his links with Scarborough by doing his daily show from studios overlooking the sea.

Since leaving the BBC he has been involved with a number of community radio stations like Coast and County Radio.

A service of Celebration of Jerry's  life will be held at Woodlands Crematorium Scarborough today at 2.00pm.

Dominic Busby, from BBC 5 Live, worked with him at Minster FM said

When we started at Minster in 1992 it was Jerry who guided younger presenters like me.

He was the voice of experience but he was always calm and laid back.

You always felt safe with Jerry and you knew he would help to achieve your best.

Former Minster FM presenter, now with BBC Essex, Tony Fisher wrote

Very sad news. I worked with Jerry on Minster FM in the early 90s. He was such a pleasure to know and a true radio guy.

Carole Green  worked with Jerry at BBC Radio York.

This news has absolutely floored me!

He was a true gentleman and my heart goes out to his family and friends. RIP Jerry xx

Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy Billington said

I grew up listening to him do shows like ‘Scott’s Scarborough’ before working with him in Bridlington when Yorkshire Coast Radio launched there.

He had such a passion for radio.

Thoughts with him & everyone connected to him especially those who worked with him most recently at Coast & County. #StarMan.

Radio Scarborough said

He worked very hard to establish the station, as a major force in local broadcasting. We express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
