North Yorkshire Police have facilitated two 20-minute protests on Habton Road, Kirby Misperton, today.

Between 10am and 10.20am this morning, and 1.10pm and 1.30pm this afternoon, about 12 protestors blocked a vehicle entering and leaving the hydraulic fracturing site.

So far this week - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - police officers have facilitated a total of six peaceful protests of 20 minutes each near the site, when protestors have stood in the road or walked slowly in front of vehicles. There have been no arrests.

Every day, police liaison officers have liaised with members of the protest community to facilitate safe and peaceful protest activity.

On several days this week, officers who would have attended Kirby Misperton have been redeployed to policing duties elsewhere in North Yorkshire, due to the nature of the protests.

Superintendent Alisdair Dey, of North Yorkshire Police, said:

"We are continuing to take a neighbourhood policing approach to protests – we will talk to people, explain what is acceptable in terms of safety and reasonableness, and ask them to work with us to make this a safe and peaceful protest.

"We respond proportionately to any protest activity – so when it is peaceful and safe, we can scale down our resources at Kirby Misperton, and redeploy officers to neighbourhood policing roles elsewhere in North Yorkshire."
