York author shortlisted for Man Booker Prize

12:02pm 13th September 2017

A 29-year-old bookshop worker from York has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

Fiona Mozley's debut novel Elmet tells the story - through the eyes of a child - of a bare-knuckle fighter bringing up his kids.

She is currently studying for a PhD in medieval studies at the University of York, and works in the Little Apple Bookshop on High Petergate.

Other nominees for the £50,000 prize include Ali Smith's book Autumn - about a dying man "whose country seems to have changed after the Brexit vote".

The winner will be announced on the 17th October.
