Police investigating an attempted theft in York are appealing for witnesses to help with their enquiries.

At around 5.25pm on Thursday 8th July 2010 a woman entered the BNT store in Nunthorpe Road. She got behind the counter and attempted to steal money from the till.

A store worker called for assistance and the offender left empty-handed, in the direction of Upper Price Street.

The woman officers would like to trace is described as white, aged between 18 and 23-years-old, around 5ft 3in tall with a thin build. She has straight blond hair tied back in a ponytail and a thin face with a pale complexion. She was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and trousers with a grey baseball cap.

Detectives have reviewed CCTV footage in the area and believe that a number of witnesses may have seen the offender leaving the shop.
