Gang attack in Strensall

11:43am 5th July 2010
(Updated 7:14am 6th July 2010)

A gang attack on a 59 year old York man has left him with serious facial injuries.

He was assaulted by the group of teenagers in Strensall, at the junction of York Road and Southfields Road, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim was walking home from the Half Moon pub and it's believed those who carried out the attack had been refused service in the pub earlier that night.

Police are now hunting for 5 white youths, aged around 17 or 18, who were all wearing hoodies.

PC Andrew Pearson, of the Strensall Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"I would very much like to speak with a man who stopped and helped the victim outside the MOT test centre on York Road, following this vicious assault."  The man is described as being around 5ft 9in tall with a slim build.  He has short blond hair and at the time he assisted the victim he was wearing a gold and white tee shirt and black denim jeans.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about the identity of the youths who carried out the assault is asked to contact PC Andrew Pearson on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12100110517.  Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
