The 11th World Wheelie Championship took place this weekend at Elvington Airfield.

Competitors from the USA, UK, France, Holland and Ireland all competed for the world title. Success depends on the rider's skill to control the speed and balance of the motorcycle.

The participants rode customised motorbikes with some rated at 450 horsepower if turbo charged.

Egbert van Popta from Holland is the new Motorcycle Wheelie World Champion and established a new world record at 213mph.

This beat the previous record holder Gary Rothwell from Liverpool, England who achieved 209mph wheelie in 2015. To achieve this Egbert had to hold his bike in the wheelie position for a kilometre at the fastest speed.

The nearest local interest is Tom Swales from Selby who did just over 169mph.
